SELECTIONS, GRADIENTS, COMPOSITE
• Use last weeks LANDSCAPE composite assignment where we combined 2 scenes using adjust layers.
• Use QUICK SELECTION TOOL
• After the area is selected, create a NEW LAYER. Your selection will still be active, you’ll see the marching ants. Creating a new layer allows you to not work on the photo below. If you accidentally deselect you can UNDO (command Z) or reselect moving back to the photo layer.
• Select COLOR, select GRADIENT TOOL, set top left color box to 2nd one in, select gradient from COLOR to CLEAR.
• Use 2nd shape option that will give you a circular gradient. Try the others.
• Open web browser – search for SILHOUETTE OAK TREE. Download LARGE photo.
• Use the MAGIC WAND TOOL, select BLACK. Note what CONTIGUOUS does and does not.
• COPY and PASTE into LANDSCAPE PSD.
• You may need to separate the tree from the background.
• Try the FX LAYER STYLE/BLENDING OPTIONS tab on the bottom of your LAYER WINDOW. Select OUTER GLOW, you can change color and many other settings.
• SAVE often.
• SAVE as jpg whenever you get to something interesting.
• SAVE new works as lastname_composite01.jpg

• Back to browser and search for SILHOUETTE YOGA POSE. Download image.
• MENU/SELECTION/COLOR RANGE. Try selecting different parts of your image.
• Select the WHITE area.
• INVERSE selection(command shift I). This selects the figure.
• Use BRUSH TOOL or PAINT BUCKET (black) to paint in figure.
• COPY and PASTE into LANDSCAPE.
• Use FREE TRANSFORM TOOL to resize and move around composition.
• If you want to: COPY layer several times and move each one around.
• I then SELECTED 3 layers and added them into a GROUP which I can then continued to work with.
• In VIEW/NEW GUIDE LAYOUT I selected 3 columns and 2 rows so that I can understand my composition better. This is called the RULE of THIRDS and relates to the GOLDEN MEANS. We will cover this later in class.
• Add more elements if desired. I added a crane, cresent moon, stars, a light color glow behind each yogi, and mist.
• Or more fun.
